Supporting Military Perimeter Security in Gibraltar Through On-Site Collaboration

Following a site visit to Gibraltar, ExMesh Engineering has continued working with Interbuild to support security planning across key MOD sites. The focus has been on reviewing perimeter measures and advising where high security fencing and gate systems can be strengthened.

Following a site visit in October 2025, Ian Salvin from ExMesh Engineering has continued to support ongoing security planning in Gibraltar, working in partnership with Interbuild, our over agent in Gibraltar.

The visit included working closely with Interbuild to review existing perimeter measures and advise on where high security fencing and gate systems could be strengthened or upgraded ahead of upcoming border changes between Gibraltar and Spain.

This work centres around securing key Ministry of Defence (MoD) sites, including the naval base and RAF base, as new border arrangements begin to take shape.

Adapting to a Changing Border Landscape

Upcoming changes to border arrangements between Gibraltar and Spain will remove physical controls, increasing the need for robust and reliable perimeter security around critical infrastructure.

While military operations will continue as normal, maintaining secure and effective site protection remains a key priority.

“Working alongside Interbuild on these projects allows us to look at security in a joined-up way. As the situation evolves, it’s about making sure the right systems are in place to protect these sites properly.”

ExMesh Engineering continues to support Interbuild on MoD projects in Gibraltar with the supply of high-security fencing and gate systems, predominantly using the Super Security 7732 mesh, a heavy-duty expanded metal mesh solution designed to resist cutting and climbing while maintaining visibility.

A Long-Term Approach to Security

Projects like these highlight the need for forward planning when political or operational changes impact physical security.

By working closely with contractors and end users on site, we ensure systems are not only compliant, but fit for purpose long term.

As Gibraltar’s border arrangements continue to evolve, maintaining secure, reliable and adaptable perimeter protection will remain critical across all MoD facilities.
