When fencing contractor Burn Fencing was specifying for a high security fencing solution for the perimeter of Durham Constabulary’s new Investigative Hub, ExMesh™ Engineering ProtEx 2 proved to be the most effective solution for this bespoke project.

As a cost-effective, security rated fencing solution and suitable for install on elevated and undulating grounds, read on to find out why ProtEx 2 was the most suitable solution to provide an easy installation within the client’s budget.

Burn Fencing, based in Goole, is a specialist fencing contractor that has been established for more than 40 years. Working with construction firm Tilbury Douglas, its scope of work was the supply and installation a perimeter fencing in line with the high security design standards for the new Investigative Hub to be occupied by Durham Constabulary.

Initially, ExMesh™ Engineering ProtEx 2 wasn’t the product of choice, there was another manufacturer specified on the job. However, one elevation of the site required a bespoke fencing installation to a sheet pile wall.

Muhammad Short, Business Development Manager at ExMesh™ Engineering added: “Supplying our ProtEx 2 fencing for this project is a perfect demonstration of our ability to provide a security rated product, that looks great and is easy to install – even when on undulating ground.

“Our team, with many years of experience working with end clients and installers, was on hand to work with Burn Fencing’s Contracts Manager and installer teams. We are able to utilise our expertise of manufacturing high security systems for bespoke site requirements as supporting on the install to ensure it was a smooth process.”

Kalem Ainsley, Technical Manager at ExMesh™ Engineering highlighted: “It was great to work in such close partnership with the team at Burn Fencing to understand the full site requirements and be able to therefore supply a suitable product whilst utilising our automated welding cobot to drive efficiencies in the manufacturing process.

The Expanded Metal Company and ExMesh™ Engineering team, with our CAD expertise, robot welding and automation capabilities can support contractors and end users to provide a solution bespoke to requirements that is simple and cost-effective.

The sheet pile wall design was very restrictive, and to continue with a bespoke solution using the initial specified product was over the client’s budget.

After going back to the market, our ProtEx 2 fencing system was selected as a cost-effective option to the bespoke site elevation, as it is quick and simple to install – even on sloping ground!

Security was also of great importance, and as our ExMesh™ Engineering range includes systems approved all the way up to LPS 1175 C5, our ProtEx 2 fencing system was ideal. It was one of the first fencing systems in the UK to gain Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) accreditation. Meaning that the fence is certified to protect against determined attacks.

A further consideration for this project was the aesthetics of fencing system. Being in a prestigious area, it needed to look good and fit within the overall look of the project. Our fencing system, which can be supplied in a range of colours and finishings, proves that security rated fencing systems don’t have to always look industrial.
